Kate Mulvany OAM

Born and raised on Yamatji Country in Western Australia, Kate Mulvany OAM is an award-winning playwright, screenwriter, librettist and actor. She is a graduate of Curtin University, from which she has a BA and an honorary doctorate.

As an actor, Kate has performed as Richard III for Bell Shakespeare and in the Belvoir one-person show Every Brilliant Thing, for both of which she won the Helpmann Award for Best Female Performer. Kate’s screen credits include Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby, The Little Death, Lambs of God, Fighting Season, and RFDS. Mulvany can currently be seen as Sister Harriet opposite Al Pacino in the acclaimed Jordan Peele Amazon Prime series Hunters.  She will soon be seen in Baz Luhrmann’s new Elvis biopic.

As a writer, Kate’s works include adaptations of The Harp in the South, Playing Beatie Bow, Mary Stuart, Masquerade and Medea. Her original work includes The Seed, The Rasputin Affair, The Danger Age, Somewhere and Story Time.

Kate also works as a mentor and dramaturg for several emerging Australian artists, particularly  those from rural and/or disadvantaged backgrounds and artists who – like her – have a disability.
